J.K. Carriere

Ours is focused winemaking of classically structured, ageable, high-acid, smooth-tannin Pinot noir. Nuance, movement and grace are the goal. Small production – 2600 cases for the 2006 vintage – allows owner/winemaker Jim Prosser to make the highest quality wine on a barrel-by-barrel basis.

Established in 1999, the winery is nestled in a working hazelnut orchard in Yamhill County, Oregon. The winery's name is a combination of Jim's grandfathers' names and represents a covenant he holds with their integrity. A wasp features prominently on the label because it has twice nearly killed him.

In November 2007, J.K. Carriere purchased 40 acres of grape growing land on the southeast flank of Parrett Mountain, about three miles due east of our current location, in the Chehalem Mountains AVA. A new winery and estate vineyards are in the works, with groundbreaking on the new winery taking place in September 2008 and grand opening slated for September 2009. The winery is open to the public for Oregon's traditional Thanksgiving and Memorial Day weekend open houses. Because of our small staff and commitment to getting it right with the grapes, J.K. Carriere is closed for the fall harvest season, but open by appointment the rest of the year.

J.K. Carriere wines are available in wine shops, fine dining establishments and specialty markets in thirteen states, as well as directly through the winery.
